The world-wide Ring of Céilí music!
THE album title "Come to the Céilí" is an open invitation to people everywhere, and not just in Ireland, to come and enjoy the distinctive Donal Ring Céilí sounds that have reverberated around the globe for over 50 years.
From the tender age of 10 Donal was playing Céilí music when his   father Jerh gave him his first accordion.
In 1958 he formed his own band and even though other Céilí bands from that era eventually changed to different musical styles, Donal remained true to the sound that made him a success from the start.
When this recording was originally made in 1985 it was the seventh album by the band. So one can say they had served their apprenticeship well by the time they went into the studio to record this set of great toe-tapping tunes and Traditional songs.
This is an example of Donal's world-wide Ring of material as he and the band move at ease from the Traditional Irish sounds on the "Kerry Slide" to the American-flavoured "Liberty Bell" (Two Step).
Donal's parents Jerth and Mary were major influences in the Corkonion deciding to follow a Céilí band career. Other influences include his wife Brydie, and of course their children and grandchildren are carrying on the family musical tradition.
The popular RTE Radio programme "Céilí House" was a catalyst for the career of this Corkonion too.
Over the years Donal and the band have taken Traditional music sounds, such as those on this CD, to audiences in many countries and continents.
